Memorial Day "Cards for Heroes" Bloghop

A bloghop is a blast of creativity and sharing! Bloggers from all over the US and abroad will be posting a card and sharing why THEY participate in honoring our nation's heroes. And everyone else gets inspired! This is a wonderful cause and making cards is a lot of FUN!

If you've landed here in the middle of the hop please click here to begin at the "Top of the Hop".

Cards for Heroes is a wonderful organization that supports armed forces serving overseas by sending them blank greeting cards for them to send home to family, as well as cards of gratitude to encourage them. This is my first event I am participating in, and I am inspired by all of the fabulous cards posted along the hop. There are lots of beautiful cards and projects, too.

On this Memorial Day Weekend - My thoughts and Prayers go out to all Service Men and Women this weekend. I take this time to remember my Grandfather who served in the Coast Guard, my Father, the Navy and my youngest sister Andrea, who it currently in the Army National Guard and will be shipping out to Afghanistan in September.

"Great works are performed, not by strength, but by perserverance". This quote was typed on a piece of white paper and taped to a column in my sisters' barracks at boot camp at Fort Jackson, S.C. How appropriate and it describes so simply how we meet our many challenges in life...and as artists - working through the pains of creating a masterpiece.

This is three generations of Girls in my family after bootcamp graduation: I'm on the left, then my "Lil" sister Andrea [she's about a foot taller than me], my sister Alice and my Mom [also Susan] and my two crazy neices.

Painting with Chocolate Cake...

Susan M. Brown at about age 2. She learned to paint at a very young age...

Bonjour!

Welcome to Salon D'Arte...an exhibition of handcrafted items.

This blogspot is to accompany the SalonDArte Etsy Shop featuring handcrafted Fine Art : Paper Arts : Cards & Such created by Mixed Media Artist Susan M. Brown [sbartist].

My inspiration: art history and Paris...

The Salon (French: Salon), or rarely Paris Salon (French: Salon de Paris), beginning in 1725 was the official art exhibition of the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Paris, France. Between 1748–1890 it was the greatest annual or biannual art event in the western world. Since 1881 it was organized by the Société des Artistes Français.

Appréciez le spectacle!
